Perfecting my lip balm recipe

As you know, more than a week ago now, I received my orders of goodies. I’ve been having fun making stuff since then! Well, today is no exception. Today, I made some lip balms. I tried a few variations to find out what works best for my tubes. Three first iteration is not as flavorful as I’d like it to be and it’s soft to begin with, so that’s out (it would work great as a jar or container lip balm that you apply with your finger). The second version is tasty but still melts to fast for my liking. I therefore proceeded to just add beeswax to that mix and voila! The blend was ideal! I must replicate that!

I couldn’t wait to try out those flavour oils I ordered and I really wanted to blend strawberry and chocolate for a deflectable treat and a treat it is! Batch #2 and #3 have me licking my lips at random. I love it! It’s not quite the taste I was expecting but it’s good!

What’s even more unexpected fun with this project is that I got to use my heat gun for the first time! I had received it as a gift for Christmas and finally got to use it just now. I love it! It comes with attachments for various uses and it stands on its back so the hot tip stands up when you’re done with it. How cool is that?!

The recipe for the lip balm is very simple if you have the ingredients:

.2 oz beeswax

.25 oz cocoa butter

.1 oz coconut oil

.05 oz avocado oil

.1 oz shea butter

6 drops lip balm flavour oil

  • Measure all the oils, butters and wax in a Pyrex measuring cup.
  • Put Pyrex cup in a small pot of simmering water until all oils, butters and wax are completely melted.
  • Pour into sterilised lip balm tube or container.
